Rathbone Greenbank Investments' clients co-file shareholder resolution at Royal Dutch Shell

18 January 2010

Rathbone Greenbank Investments is proud to announce that around 60 of its clients were among the 100 co-filers of a resolution at Royal Dutch Shell concerning its controversial operations in the Canadian Tar Sands.

Using new powers embodied in the 2006 Companies Act, we have enabled shareholders of Shell using our nominee to be co-filers of the resolution in their own name. We believe we are unique among UK private client ethical investment managers in offering this opportunity to our clients.

The overwhelming response from our Shell holders demonstrates not only the passion and commitment of our clients, but also the level of concern regarding the environmentally destructive extraction of the Canadian Tar Sands. Our work on this project is the latest step in our long-standing engagement with the company over the issue.

The resolutions are being coordinated by FairPensions, and involve a coalition of 141 co-filers including fund managers, pension funds, foundations and faith groups. The resolution will now be discussed at the 2010 AGM, an important milestone in shareholder democracy in the UK.
