Rathbone Greenbank questions BP's oil sands project

17th April 2008

Rathbone Greenbank joined with a coalition of investors to raise concerns at BP’s Annual General Meeting over the company’s re-entry into the Canadian oil sands project. Jointly presenting the statement with the ECCR, Rathbone Greenbank raised important questions about the long-term environmental impacts of this highly intensive form of oil extraction, and the future costs to the company should expensive carbon capture technology have to be fitted to the project. Complementing the coalition on their reasoned approach, BP Chairman Peter Sutherland stressed the company’s ongoing commitment to leadership on renewable and sustainable energy solutions.
