Access To Medicine Index

4 June 2010

Rathbone Greenbank Investments is pleased to announce its formal support of the Access To Medicine Index. Operated by the Access To Medicine Foundation, the ATM Index is a benchmarking exercise covering the major global pharmaceutical companies, assessing the quality of responses to the challenges of providing affordable healthcare to the developing world.

The Index is becoming the accepted yardstick for measuring companies’ performance in this important area. It assesses response to the key issues of pricing, patent protection and research into diseases affecting the developing world, as identified by the World Health Organisation. The first index was launched in 2008 and Rathbone Greenbank Investments is supporting the launch of the second index launched in summer 2010.

We believe it is important to gain as much information regarding the ethical performance of companies as possible, in order to help us best fit investments to our clients’ values. Such initiatives make this possible, while also eliminating unnecessary burdens on companies in the form of avoided duplication of information provision. We are excited to be working in conjunction with many other players in the responsible investment community on this important issue.
